February 17, 2018, WLL welcomed back the Lee family as they, along with Eddie Cervantes provided a 4 station baseball clinic, followed by informal games. Sam's Hauf Brau provided complimentary sandwiches. Mr. Lee spoke to the group about sportsmanship, baseball, life lessons and nuggets of baseball knowledge. His sons Bryan and Derrek assisted the clinic with Bryan providing outfield instruction, and Derrek working the batting cages. Derrek, who had a fifteen plus major league career, won a World Series title with the Florida Marlins in 2003. He then made a name for himself as the "new Mr. Cub," playing in the friendly confines of Wrigley field as the Cubs all-star first baseman for eight seasons. While a Cub, Derrek earned two all-star appearances, a silver slugger award and two golden gloves. “Some of my most cherished memories of baseball happened here,” said Derrek, who played his little league years here at Whitney and later, for El Camino High School. Mr. Cervantes, who had an 8 year professional career as an infielder, worked infield drills. It was a truly memorable day. A sincere thank you to all who helped make this happen.
