Good Afternoon Whitney - Well the hits just keep on coming... Today, Sacramento County Board Chair and First District Supervisor Phil Serna, District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert, Sheriff Scott Jones, Department of Health Services Director Dr. Peter Beilenson announced the Sacramento County Public Health Order to combat the spread of COVID-19. The legal order states: "All public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a household or living unit are prohibited, except for the limited purposes as expressly permitted. This Order shall become effective at 11:59 p.m. on March 19, 2020, and will continue to be in effect until 11:59 p.m. on April 7, 2020, or until it is extended, rescinded, superseded, or amended in writing by the Health Officer."
This means our previous target date of returning to League Activities as recommended by Little League International of April 6th, is now null and void. Our new target date for LL activities to resume will now be Monday April 13th, when School is slated to resume. As time goes by, I personally don't believe this is achievable. As previously reported in our last message, LLI is strongly urging we suspend all activities until May 11th. This may end up being the case, it may not. Our decision to begin play, will be based the situation in the greater Sacramento area and the counties guidelines. I can report we did receive a message from District 5 administration reporting they are considering many different possibilities regarding All-Star tournament eligibility and play. This could be an elimination or reduction to the minimum number of games played, it could be a cancellation of the all-star tournament, or it could be something entirely different, I don't know as they haven't given any details yet.
Regarding regular season play, it was also reported leagues can choose to play "regular season" games as deep into the year as they want. We will not be required to stop playing once the all-star tournament starts either. Meaning division play could continue during the all-star season. Our teams can continue playing and get a full season if we choose to do so. It will be up to each league and its board to make decisions based on what is best for the league. WLL Board will be meeting soon to determine what this may look like for us. These decision will be based on our leagues needs, the health orders and recommendations made by Sacramento County.
